Dove Apologizes For Inappropriate FB Advert After Drawing Public fury
Dove has been forced to apologize and take down a controversial online advertisement that has caused furor on social media.
The now-deleted four-panel photo shows a black woman taking off her top to reveal a white woman underneath after using a body lotion. Internet users slammed the campaign as racist, with some calling to boycott Dove products.
The personal care brand admitted it had “missed the mark” in its online campaign and expressed regret for the offence it had caused.
This is not the first time Dove, which has positioned itself as a brand that encourages real beauty, has been accused of racism. A before-and-after advert in 2011 also chronicled the transition of a black woman into a white woman after using a body wash – an ad Dove said was misinterpreted.
