The Igbo traders , cutting across the length and breadth of Lagos metropolis have , with one voice , resolved to shut down all markets in the business never of
Nigeria to receive, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in his planned visit of Lagos.
Though the proposed visit has generated a lot of diversed opinions, among a spectrum of various nationalities and interest groups on the timing of the visit, the traders said they are solidly behind such a visit, adding that they would sacrifice their resources towards its success.
At the Alaba International Market, for instance, the traders rose from a meeting and reiterated their vow to close the market to receive Kanu whenever he visits Lagos.
They said they had already put up programme, including special rally for he IPOB leader. According to them, when the issue was thrown open for discussion, an overwhelming majority threw their weight behind closing market, like other outlets in other to accord the Biafran agitator a rousing welcome.
Most of traders,spoken to said they leadership of the various markets in the state have mapped out strategies that could see Kanu visit each location on different days, to be followed by reception rallies.
Hear Mr. Uche Ekewechi the leader of Almalgamated Igbo Traders , Lagos: “We expect him to spend more than one week in Lagos to enable him touch all places that they Igbo are doing business.
“No market will be opened on the days he would be touring a particular zone, otherwise the crown will uncontrollable.
“He is law abiding in his demand for freedom of his people , unlike others who have been violent in their pursuit of similar request , hence he has been touring places without any molestation.
” He is the leader of our time. He will take Biafra to the Promised Land; we are happy that he is visiting because he has visited Port Harcourt, Ebonyi, Owerri and other places.”
“We are also expecting him here. All hail Biafra!”.
Other respondents said hm the IPOB leader has won the heart of even governments at various levels by his peaceful resolve to get Biafra without shedding any blood.
Said another kea: “But what has Kanu done wrong? Did he commit any crime? Is he a member of Boko Haram or Fulani herdsmen? Did he carry any arm? All he is asking for is our own country where nobody will treat us as second class citizens. If the only reason why they want to kill him is for asking for our freedom, we will follow him.”
