A former First Lady of Lagos State and Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Oluremi Tinubu, turned 60 on September 21, 2020, and she was resoundingly celebrated by family, friends and political associates.
While many well wishers reflected on her service to the nation and humanity, her son, Oluwaseyi, took to his instagram page to pay a glowing tribute to her. In what many on the Internet have described as a ‘love letter’, he wrote, “My dear mother, stateswoman, hero and shining light. I could write a book on you and those words would still never be enough to fully express my gratitude for the maternal love and positive impact you have made on my life and the lives of others too many to mention.
“You have always been there every step of the way, caring, guiding, teaching and most importantly, being a backbone to me. When it seemed I was straying, your firm, guiding hands gently nudged me towards the right path without judgement as only a mother could. Over the years, what you have embedded in us is not something that me and my siblings will be able to repay in this lifetime but one which we will impart onto your grandkids and others around us. Your legacy is already written in gold in our hearts and through your actions.
“Not only have you been a solid backbone to many leaders, your life is a lesson in leadership, devotion, dedication and commitment. Over the years, you have built leaders and have shown what is possible as a woman in a man’s world. In a field where it is difficult and taxing enough being a political leader, you have remained true to your family as an ever present matriarch. You keep breaking barriers, championing and redefining the roles of a woman in your ever so subtle ways and I’m proud to have you as a mother.
Your motherly nature taught me the basics of compassion to others and is one reason I have followed your footsteps in setting up the Noella Foundation, catering to the less privileged in society. Heroes come in many forms, shapes and sizes. You came in the form of a mother to all. You were made to be the perfect hero and you keep proving that daily. Thank you for all you are. Thank you for who you are. Thank you for all you do. You are loved beyond measure, our beloved mother.”
