It is a thing of concern, how Nigerian students have remained at home for close to three months without knowing when and how exactly to return to school. This is as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic which led to a lockdown almost in all countries of the world. No level in the education sector was left behind, from primary to tertiary.
Unfortunately, it’s sad to be informed that the Covid-19 cases are on the increase, despite all the measures deployed to bring the wave down. It is noteworthy however, that the federal government is working tirelessly to bring this health and life threat to an end. And owing to the course of their measures, schools and other social activities have been closed for the meantime.
Doubtlessly, primary school pupils and secondary school students especially those in terminal classes who were about taking their promotion exams could not do so due to the lockdown order. Their exams were therefore, postponed till further notice.
Pupils and students who should be in their third term already have not even written their second term exams, while those who should have written their Junior, Senior WAEC and Common Entrance have no clue of their next step. Indeed it is disheartening.
However, parents of these children understood very well that is for their safety and that of their children that this lockdown was extended to schools. And that government is trying everything within their power to see that these children are kept safe whenever resumption comes.
Therefore, children in primary and secondary schools or perhaps their parents and guardians should take note of these:
1. That government has not officially fixed a date for any school resumption, wether Public or Private.
. That the Minister of Education, Prof. Adamu Adamu has made it clear that students in Nigeria has been given a free access to the following websites for their free lessons and study-from-home classes; www.schoolgate.ng, www.mobileclassroom.com.ng.
3. That students and pupils should continue reading their books while they wait at home.
Now, knowing that these children have not written their promotion exams, do you suggest they write it on the free portals online, write it when school resumes or just get promoted without exams so could meet up with the school calendar?
